River kayaking descent – Blue Route
Now officially certified as a Blue Route, the Saint-Charles River invites visitors to enjoy a kayaking getaway just steps from downtown. Découverte Kayak Nature Beauharnois-Salaberry offers river descents with full equipment, shuttle service and safe supervision. Two options are available:
Self-guided supervised descent – 4 or 8 km
Perfect for visitors who want to paddle at their own pace. Choose between a 4 km route (about 2 hours) or an 8 km route (about 4 hours). The experience includes an on-site welcome and safety briefing, full equipment and return shuttle service.
- Available every Saturday and Sunday from July 4 to September 7, as well as on Fridays, July 24 and 31. Departures between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Guided descent – 8 km
For a more immersive outing, the 8 km guided descent is led by guides and includes full equipment, shuttle service, as well as a light lunch with beverages.

What is the Charbonnier?
The Charbonnier is an old barge tied to local industrial history. Once used to transport coal to the Montreal Cotton mill, it now rests at the bottom of the lake and has become a fascinating dive site. Its structure is now home to a variety of aquatic species.

Try whitewater kayaking in the heart of the city
Want to discover whitewater kayaking in an accessible and supervised setting? In 2026, Kayak Valleyfield is launching the Discovery Saturdays, a new introductory activity designed for both kids and adults ages 8 and up.
Accompanied by an instructor, participants learn the basic techniques of paddling in moving water in a safe and beginner-friendly environment. A private option is also available.
