L'écho des racines
The Echo of Roots is a choreographic project born from a fertile dialogue between flamenco and Québécois step dance (gigue). Bringing together eight seasoned dancers and musicians, the piece explores the subtle connections that link these two traditions, while also questioning the temporal and spatial boundaries that define them.
On stage, the performers move through a web of yarn that gradually transforms as their interactions unfold. Inspired by an underground phenomenon observed in forests, the yarn symbolizes hyphae — the root-like structures of fungi — which allow trees to communicate across vast distances through their roots via mycorrhizal networks.
Like these hidden fungal systems, The Echo of Roots poetically and contemporarily illustrates the ever-evolving nature of traditional forms — forms nourished by endless connections, influences, and lived experiences.
At once thought-provoking and festive, rich and accessible, the work resonates with both dance and music audiences alike.
Co-presented by BIGICO, a presenter dedicated to contemporary step dance, The Echo of Roots ignites both the performers on stage and the hearts of those watching.
