Alexandre Poulin
Four years after the release of Nature humaine, a sold-out tour of over 100 shows, and a nomination at the 2020 ADISQ Gala for “Folk Album of the Year,”
Alexandre Poulin returns with La Somme des êtres aimés, his sixth studio album.
This new work unveils a more organic, nostalgic sound, blending 70s-inspired tones — twelve-string guitars, pianos, flutes — with layered vocal harmonies. The result is a fresh, warmer setting for his signature storytelling: songs that are more sung, more intimate, yet still grounded in the poetic narratives that define his art.
Always at the heart of his work is Poulin’s unique way of telling stories in just a few minutes. Poet, philosopher, storyteller — and once a teacher — Poulin is a multifaceted artist with a singular path, far from media trends and ready-made fame. His desire to remain true to himself, and to the way he tells stories, resonates powerfully on stage — earning him a loyal audience and numerous awards, both in Québec and across Europe.
His self-titled debut album, released in 2008, was met with glowing reviews, his first ADISQ nomination, and chart success throughout Québec. His second album, Une lumière allumée (2010), struck a chord with audiences on both sides of the Atlantic, leading to over 150 performances. With a folk-rooted sound and lyrics shaped like short stories without a chorus, this record deepened the distinctive style that defines his songwriting.
After three years on the road, he co-produced his third album, Le Mouvement des marées (2013), a rich blend of folk and chanson where he explored the human condition with both sensitivity and lucidity. The album found a strong reception in France, earning him invitations to major television shows such as On n’est pas couché.
His fourth album, Les Temps sauvages (2016), was born in the heart of winter, deep in the woods. It was an immediate success, garnering another ADISQ nomination for “Folk Album of the Year” and a new round of 100+ sold-out shows. Then came Nature humaine (2019), an introspective and curious look at what defines us as human beings.
With La Somme des êtres aimés, Alexandre Poulin continues to chart a deeply personal and authentic course — one where storytelling, songcraft, and sincerity remain at the forefront.
